What is a reasonable accommodation for USA Hire assessments?
Reasonable accommodations for the USA Hire Assessments are modifications to the online testing process that may be provided to qualified individuals with disabilities as provided for in the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended. The purpose of an accommodation is to provide equal access to the assessment process for applicants with disabilities. Applicants who request a reasonable accommodation will have their request reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Requests that are determined to be warranted and reasonable for the required Assessment(s) will be considered for approval.
How do I know if I will need an accommodation for this assessment process?
If you are unsure if you need to request an assessment accommodation, you are encouraged to complete the USA Hire Practice assessments. Please review these practice assessments and their accompanying instructions carefully.
- If your disability affects your performance with these types of questions, then please submit a request for a reasonable accommodation.
- If you still have questions about the process, please contact the USA Hire Reasonable Accommodations Team by submitting a help desk ticket.
All requests for reasonable accommodations for the USA Hire Assessments received by specified deadlines will be considered on a case-by-case basis. There is no standard set of accommodations available. If you need a specific accommodation, please follow the steps outlined for requesting that accommodation.
When is an assessment accommodation request not required?
If you are taking assessments in an unproctored setting (i.e., not requiring a testing center appointment), you can control your testing environment. You may incorporate many common accommodations such as:
-
Use a screen reader: You may use a software or human screen reader for the assessments without requesting an accommodation. Applicants are expected to secure and use a screen reader (e.g., software or human) on their own before their assessment completion deadline.
-
Use closed captions: Video portions of the assessments include closed captioning for any applicant who would like to use it, without requesting an accommodation. You may use a larger screen (e.g., computer, tablet) for better viewing.
-
Enlarge the font: Use the zoom feature in your web browser or the Magnifier feature on your device to enlarge the font.
-
Take breaks: You can start and stop the assessments within the assessment completion period as needed without requesting an accommodation, unless otherwise stated in the instructions. If you need to stop the assessment, complete your current item then close your web browser window. You can use the same link to resume the assessments from the point where you stopped.
- Environmental accommodations: You can modify your device, desk, chair, and other physical and environmental factors without requesting an accommodation.
Actions such as those listed above are permitted without needing to request an accommodation. Be sure to secure and implement all such modifications before your assessment completion deadline. Ensure your device (e.g., computer, tablet, mobile) meets the system requirements for completing the unproctored assessments.
